A little over a week ago, I was planning a motorcycle/camping trip. The day before leaving the oil light came on my new Triumph. (right after vigorously using the car wash wand) My Dealer, Engle's in Kansas City said to bring it in. I loaded the bike in my 1970 C10 w/ 350 granny 4 speed. I was driving just over 100 miles in each direction. I haven't had my truck long, so I still don't trust it completely, but off I went, bike in the rear LB fleetside box. The old truck loves those on-ramps, accelerating eagerly to red-line, the speedometer reading 90 and then shifting into 4th. What a sound, despite the new glasspacks, it still sounds like it has the straight dual pipes it came with. This time I had my GPS with me. The GPS said when the speedometer is reading 60, I'm actually doing 70, and the engine is at 2500 rpm's. This means when I'm merging in 3rd gear, I'm shifting into high gear at 100 mph. I cruised at the speed limit, but couldn't resist those on-ramps, and also blasting away from toll booths on the turnpike. I drove 240 miles and STILL showed 1/4 tank on the gas gauge. More than acceptable gas mileage. I'm thinking I won't let the old beauty sit so much, she really is an affordable and economical ride. I'm loving my old truck.
